What is a makerspace?
A makerspace is a space where students are given a challenge that they need to solve or accomplish. We know that in order for today’s students to be college and career ready, they need to develop 21st Century Skills including collaboration, creativity, and communication. Finding authentic ways to accomplish this in a classroom setting can be challenging. Makerspaces lend themselves to developing these skills in organic and productive ways. Projects often benefit from the input and thinking of multiple students. Collaboration and teamwork happen naturally. You don’t have to push it. You just give them a challenge and it will happen. Teamwork is essential to the success of projects.
